Al Dirazi denies Northern Governorate imposing fines for improper waste disposal

A member of the Northern Governorate Municipal Council, Zainab Al Dirazi has confirmed that no fines will be imposed for improper waste disposal in the Northern Governorate.

Al Dirazi stated that the municipality categorically denied during a meeting on Monday that it had announced any such fines, confirming that the announcement circulating on social media is fabricated.

While acknowledging that an announcement regarding fines had been made, Al Dirazi clarified that this announcement did not apply to the Northern Governorate. She further emphasised that the Northern Governorate currently lacks sufficient waste containers.

The social media announcement, which Al Dirazi confirmed as fake, claimed that the Northern Governorate Municipality would impose fines ranging from BD50 to BD300 for failure to dispose of waste in designated containers.

The fake announcement also stated that the collection of waste from in front of homes would cease entirely. Al Dirazi’s statement aims to quell public concerns and misinformation spread through social media.

The municipality has reiterated its commitment to improving waste management services in the Northern Governorate, but stressed that this will not involve the imposition of fines at this time.
