Her Excellency Mrs. Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, recently participated in a discussion panel at the Gateway Gulf 2024 forum organized by the Bahrain Economic Development Board. During the panel, she announced the exciting news of a substantial expansion in Bahrain's hospitality sector, with a diverse selection of world-renowned hotels set to open between 2024 and 2026.
This development will add over 3,000 new hotel rooms, further solidifying Bahrain's position as a leading regional tourism hub.
The expansion reflects Bahrain's strategic positioning as a premier and diverse tourism destination, capable of catering to a wide variety of travelers. Al Sairafi emphasized that Bahrain's favorable business environment, investment-friendly incentives, and supportive measures have successfully attracted prestigious hotel projects aligned with global standards.
This initiative is part of Bahrain’s comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Minister highlighted Bahrain's commitment to enhancing its tourism appeal through a diversified hotel landscape, enriching the country's tourism offerings for families, individuals, groups, and business travelers alike. The new hotels will provide various options, from luxury and comfort to cultural experiences, catering to adventure seekers and beach enthusiasts. This diversity also supports business tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), positioning Bahrain as an ideal destination for both leisure and corporate events.
Between 2024 and 2026, a total of 16 hotels will be established in Bahrain. The first new four-star and five-star hotels are set to welcome guests in 2024, with an additional 12 hotels expected to open by 2026. These expansions are projected to bolster the tourism, hospitality, and hotel sectors, increasing tourism revenues and creating new job opportunities in the hospitality industry.
Moreover, they will support small and medium enterprises through partnerships with local suppliers and contractors, enhancing Bahrain’s tourism infrastructure, services, and facilities to meet rising visitor demand, especially in light of the Kingdom hosting major international events and conferences.
Al Sairafi noted that this expansion in the hospitality sector is a testament to the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority's (BTEA) ongoing efforts, in close collaboration with the private sector, to enrich the Kingdom’s tourism landscape and elevate visitor experiences.
Tourism is a key pillar of growth under Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, remaining one of the most promising sectors with a positive impact on the GDP. This initiative aims to cement Bahrain’s positioning as a globally leading tourism destination, blending authentic Arabian hospitality, rich cultural heritage, and modern entertainment experiences, making each visit to Bahrain an unforgettable journey.
