Calls for emergency services witness surge

Bahrain’s emergency services experienced a surge in call volume in September 2024, handling a total of 15,961 calls.
This marks an increase from August’s high of 15,402, indicating a sustained and pressing demand for emergency response resources throughout the country.
In August, the Emergency Operations Centre processed 15,402 calls, with 67% classified as emergency situations, 28% as traffic incidents, and 5% as security issues.
The Coast Guard effectively managed 131 incidents, while the National Ambulance Service responded to 4,774 calls.
Trend
September’s data reveals a similar trend of heightened demand for emergency services.
The 15,961 calls received during this month were categorised as follows: 66% general emergency responses, 28% traffic incidents, and 6% security matters.
The Coast Guard operations centre responded to 200 calls, which included 143 search and rescue missions, 6 maritime accidents, and 51 requests for assistance, illustrating the diverse challenges faced by responders.
The National Ambulance Service attended to 4,778 calls, which encompassed 3,127 medical emergencies, 852 patient transfers between hospitals, 393 injuries resulting from traffic accidents, 372 injuries from other incidents, and 34 fire-related injuries.
