Private sector workers and small business owners earning less than 1,500 dinars will soon receive a monthly cost-of-living allowance, similar to government employees, under a proposal set to be discussed in Parliament next Tuesday. The proposal has already received full support from the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee. Introduced by MP Hanan Fardan, the proposal aims to alleviate financial pressures on private sector workers and small business owners, particularly those registered with the Social Insurance Organisation.

Committee Chair Ahmed Al Salloom stated, “This is about giving private sector workers and entrepreneurs the same support as their peers in government jobs. It’s a practical step to address the challenges faced by many hardworking Bahrainis. ”Finalized on 11 November 2024, the report is based on the cost-of-living adjustments made for government employees, which were increased during the discussions on the 2023- 2024 State Budget. The proposal was referred to the committee in June 2023 by Speaker of Parliament, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, and has since been endorsed without opposition. MP Basma Mubarak led the report as its chief rapporteur.
