Companies seeking government service contracts must allocate at least 20% of jobs to Bahraini nationals. This requirement comes from a proposal put forward by a group of MPs, including Dr. Hisham Al Asheeri, Mahmoud Fardan, Ahmed Qarata, Mohammed Al Rifai, and Mohsen Al Asboul. The proposal, which has already been endorsed by the House's Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, aligns with and Prime Minister, to priorithis requirement mandatory increased employment would the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to prioritise investment in the Bahraini workforce The MPs argue that making this requirement mandatory would significantly boost job opportunities for Bahraini nationals. They also believe that increased employment would contribute to greater family stability, stimulating the domestic market through higher consumer spending and increased economic activity.
To ensure compliance, companies would be required to submit a verifiable certificate from the Ministry of Labour or an authorised government body, confirming that the 20% Bahraini employment threshold has been met before they are allowed to bid on government contracts. This injection of capital into the local economy, driven by higher employment and spending, is seen as a crucial part of the broader economic strategy.
