Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation Awarded to Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery

H.E. Ms. Asako OKAI, Ambassador of Japan to Bahrain, presented the prestigious Foreign Minister's Commendation to Dr. Abdulrahman A. Hussain Jawahery, Chief Executive Officer of Bapco Refining and former President of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC)at a grand ceremony held in Rotana Onyx Hotel.
This honor recognizes Dr. Jawahery’s exceptional contributions to strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan and Bahrain.
The Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded annually by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to individuals and groups who have demonstrated outstanding contributions in international fields. This year, Dr. Jawahery was recognized for his remarkable efforts in promoting friendship between Japan and Bahrain and fostering industrial and cultural ties between the two nations.
Legacy of Collaboration
During the ceremony, Ambassador OKAI praised Dr. Jawahery’s unwavering commitment to industrial development and cultural diplomacy. “Dr. Abdulrahman’s dedication to enhancing industrial cooperation between Bahrain and Japan is commendable,” she said. “His efforts to inspire and motivate the next generation are equally exceptional.”
Gratitude and Vision
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Jawahery expressed heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their steadfast support of Bahrain’s industrial excellence.
“We take pride in the historic relationship between Bahrain and Japan, which began with Bahrain becoming the first country to export oil to Japan,” Dr. Jawahery stated. “We deeply value Japan’s role as a key economic partner.”
Dr. Jawahery’s notable achievements include his instrumental role in the establishment of the Bahrain-Japan Friendship Garden, a significant cultural landmark located in Al-Areen Wildlife Park. The garden commemorates His Majesty King Hamad’s 2012 visit to Japan and was officially inaugurated in 2015 in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa. The garden symbolizes the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, showcasing Japanese traditions and fostering bilateral ties.
Dr. Jawahery also played a pivotal role in strengthening industrial collaborations between Japanese firms and GPIC. Highlights of his initiatives include introducing carbon capture technology from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries nearly two decades ago, implementing advanced engineering solutions from Yokogawa, and constructing a urea resin plant using JGC’s cutting-edge technology. These projects have had a lasting impact on Bahrain’s industrial landscape.
