MP Jalal Kadhem Mahfoodh has stepped up efforts to reunite Bahraini families separated by strict immigration rules, urging quicker, simpler procedures to bring foreign spouses into the country. Requests have been submitted to the Ministry of Interior, and Mahfoodh is engaging directly with government officials to address the legal and bureaucratic barriers that have left families waiting for years.

‘Families should not have to endure such hardships just to live together,’ Mahfoodh said. ‘We’re working to simplify these procedures and ensure that, once the requirements are met, expat spouses can join their loved ones without delay.’

Mahfoodh highlighted the toll such separations take on families, describing his efforts as essential for preserving family unity. ‘This is about protecting the bonds that hold families together and preventing the damage caused by lengthy separations,’ he added.

The MP called for an urgent overhaul of existing processes, arguing that the current system is too slow and cumbersome. ‘The law supports these families, and it’s our duty to ensure that the process reflects that support,’ he said. ‘When families are reunited, it strengthens not only their ties but also the social fabric of our communities.’

Mahfoodh also emphasised the critical role families play in society. ‘Strong families are the foundation of a stable and thriving community,’ he said. ‘By helping them live together in a secure and supportive environment, we empower them to contribute to development and raise active, engaged members of society.’

He pledged to continue pressing the issue until meaningful changes are made. ‘I will stay on top of this matter and ensure every effort is made to overcome the obstacles keeping families apart,’ he said.
