With anticipation in the air, Bahrain is moments away from hosting the region's inaugural World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, an event poised to spotlight the Kingdom as a culinary tourism pioneer. The forum, a collaboration between the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Bahrain’s Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), is held in partnership with the renowned Basque Culinary Center (BCC).
The event's grand opening ceremony will see distinguished figures taking centre stage, including H.E. Ms. Fatima Al Sairafi, Bahrain’s Minister of Tourism; Mr. Joxe Mari Aizega, Director General of the Basque Culinary Center; and Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UNWTO. Together, they will set the tone for discussions that promise to redefine tourism strategies through gastronomy.
Held at the state-of-the-art Exhibition World Bahrain, the forum runs through November 19th, bringing together international experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore how culinary traditions and innovations can drive sustainable tourism.
As the first forum of its kind in the Middle East, this milestone event aligns seamlessly with Bahrain’s broader aspirations of becoming a global hub for innovative, sustainable tourism. "Bahrain is thrilled to welcome the world to this historic gathering, where we not only celebrate culinary arts but also foster economic and cultural connections," Ms. Al Sairafi shared ahead of the opening.
With sessions tackling themes such as sustainability, digital transformation, and culinary diplomacy, Bahrain is poised to make a lasting impression on the global tourism map, using food as a unifying force.
