In a landmark humanitarian effort, a 60-year-old brain stroke patient from Kerala, India, has been successfully repatriated after being stranded in Bahrain for five years due to a travel ban.

Mr. Sasidharan Meppayil, a native of Badagara in Calicut District, Kerala, faced immense challenges after being paralyzed on one side following a brain stroke. Adding to his distress was a travel ban resulting from a penalty, leaving him stranded in Bahrain since 2019.

The breakthrough came through the relentless advocacy of the Pravasi Legal Cell Bahrain Chapter, led by its Global PRO and Chapter President, Mr. Sudheer Thirunilath. Under his leadership, the organization worked closely with legal expert Adv. Tariq Alown, who submitted a mercy request on behalf of Mr. Sasidharan. Recognizing his critical medical condition, the Honorable Judge granted permission for his repatriation, lifting the travel ban.

The repatriation process was further facilitated by the invaluable support of the Embassy of India in Bahrain and immigration authorities, who worked to clear all fines and finalize arrangements.

Mr. Sasidharan left for his home country via Qatar Airways on Sunday 17 nov from Bahrain International Airport. Supporting member Mr. Roy Domenic was present at the airport to bid him farewell, ensuring a dignified departure for the ailing individual.

“This achievement is a testament to the power of collective effort and dedication,” said Mr. Sudheer Thirunilath. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Adv. Tariq Alown, the Embassy of India, and all supporting members who made this mission possible. This milestone highlights the need for continued collaboration to resolve the challenges faced by distressed migrants.”

The successful repatriation of Mr. Sasidharan is a beacon of hope and underscores the importance of humanitarian interventions in addressing the struggles of vulnerable expatriates.
