Parliament’s closed-door session took a dramatic turn today as MP Mohamed Al Alaiwi fainted moments before a critical vote on lifting immunity from fellow MP Hamad Al Doy. The incident, which occurred during tense deliberations, temporarily halted proceedings and left colleagues deeply concerned.
Sources from within Parliament revealed that Al Alaiwi experienced sudden dizziness and collapsed during the session. On-site medical staff acted swiftly, administering first aid, and he regained consciousness about 15 minutes later. An ambulance was called to the scene to further evaluate his condition and provide additional care if needed.
The session was particularly charged, as MPs were preparing to vote on the controversial motion to lift Al Doy’s immunity - a decision that has ignited fierce debates over recent days.
Al Alaiwi, known for his active participation in legislative matters, has recently been advocating for key proposals, including one focused on regulating pet ownership and addressing stray animal concerns in Bahrain. His commitment to public health and environmental issues has drawn widespread attention.
Parliamentarians expressed their concern and extended their wishes for Al Alaiwi’s full recovery. "Our thoughts are with him during this time, and we hope for his full return to health," said one MP.
The incident, though brief, highlighted the strain on lawmakers amid high-pressure deliberations. As Al Alaiwi recovers, Parliament is expected to resume its discussions on the contentious immunity motion.
