The Shura Council’s Services Committee, chaired by Dr Jameela Salman, has forwarded two significant draft laws to the Council’s bureau. These bills propose key changes to the allocation of Tamkeen funding and expansion of benefits for senior citizens. The first draft focuses on amending Article 4 of Law No. (57) of 2006, which established the Labour Fund (Tamkeen).
This amendment, built upon a revised proposal from the House of Representatives, aims to redirect Tamkeen’s support for projects, programmes, and financial and consulting services.
Changes
The proposed changes would prioritise companies and institutions with Bahraini ownership, excluding those wholly owned by non-Bahraini nationals from receiving Tamkeen funding. The goal is to ensure that Tamkeen resources are primarily directed towards benefiting Bahraini businesses and entrepreneurs.
The second draft law addresses amendments to Article 9 of Law No. (58) of 2009, concerning the rights of senior citizens. This bill, also based on a revised proposal from the House of Representatives, seeks to significantly increase benefits for Bahrain’s elderly population.
