A culinary celebration as Bahraini chefs impress 50 countries at world gastronomy forum

Wowing over 500 participants from 50 countries with their culinary flair, Bahraini chefs left a lasting mark on the 9th UN Tourism World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism. Hosted for the first time in the Middle East by the Kingdom of Bahrain, the event showcased the island's rich and diverse culinary heritage, alongside its renowned hospitality.
Chefs Tala Bashmi, named the Best Female Chef in the Middle East and North Africa in 2022, Lulwa Swaileh, Nader Qanati, and Abdulhamid from Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain joined Hessa Al Khalifa and Yousif Qamber to display their skills. They presented live cooking sessions and joined discussions with international chefs, sharing ideas and introducing Bahraini cooking techniques to a world- wide audience.
Pride
Her Excellency Fatima bint Jafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, expressed her pride in the chefs' efforts, calling them a true asset to Bahrain. "Our chefs are remarkable, and we will continue to support Goals them. This event has shown how Bahrain's food and hospitality can take a leading role on the world stage," she said.
Chief Executive of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), Sara Ahmed Buhejji, said the forum gave Bahraini chefs a rare opportunity to meet with top figures in the culinary field.
Goals
"Hosting this forum shows how far Bahrain has come in food tourism. It's a chance to strengthen young Bahraini talent and help them reach their goals," she said.
The chefs thanked the Ministry of Tourism and other organisers for their backing, describing the forum as a vital chance to share knowledge and ideas with others. They called for more events of this nature to celebrate Bahrain's rich food culture while spurring creativity and new ideas in food tourism.

Programmes
The forum, held on 18-19 November 2024 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, brought together chefs, experts, and industry leaders for a packed programme of events. Topics included marketing destinations through food and using culinary diplomacy to promote culture.
These discussions matched the forum's theme, "Gastronomy Tourism: A Driver of Economic Diversification and Inclusion," aligning with Bahrain's aim to advance sustainable tourism.
