A woman is facing charges of human trafficking and forced labour after allegedly exploiting her domestic worker for a year and a half without pay or leave. The worker escaped and reported the abuse to authorities.
According to the victim’s account, she came to Bahrain to work as a domestic helper for the accused. While she received wages for the first year and a half of her three-year employment , she was not paid for the subsequent 18 months. She eventually fled and reported the incident.
Investigations revealed that the accused failed to pay the worker’s wages for several months, paying only BD50 per month instead of the agreed-upon BD70. Furthermore, a criminal record check revealed that the accused has faced similar charges in the past.
