A young man has been awarded significant compensation after a car accident left him with a 25% permanent disability. The incident occurred while he was cycling, his usual hobby, when a car driven by a young woman collided with him.
The impact caused him multiple injuries resulting in the permanent disability. According to his lawyer, Mohammed Al Mahdi, the cyclist filed a lawsuit against both the driver and her insurance company, seeking BD19,949 in compensation for material and emotional damages.
The lawsuit argued that the accident was entirely the fault of the driver, whose vehicle was insured by the second defendant under a valid policy at the time of the incident.
Injuries
The cyclist sustained fractures, cuts, bruises, and other injuries, and his bicycle, helmet, and smartwatch were also damaged. A medical report confirmed the 25% permanent disability resulting from the accident.
The driver was subsequently convicted in a criminal court and fined. The civil court case proceeded, considering the cyclist’s medical expenses, lost income, and emotional distress.
