The Shura Council’s Services Committee has approved a proposed amendment to Law No. 57 of 2006, significantly altering the criteria for receiving funding from the Labour Fund, Tamkeen.
The amendment, initially proposed by the Council of Representatives and subsequently refined following feedback from the government and Tamkeen, prioritises support for businesses with Bahraini ownership.
The revised law will focus Tamkeen’s support on providing funding and support for projects with Bahraini shareholders, aiming to increase Bahraini employment, particularly in high-value-added projects.
It will also enhance access to consulting and financial services for companies and institutions with Bahraini ownership to improve worker efficiency and productivity. Furthermore, support will be provided for programmes that train employers in Bahraini-owned businesses to adapt to evolving labour market demands.
