The Bahrain International Agricultural and Livestock Exhibition "Mara’ee" has been hailed as a significant success by farmers and breeders, who credit it with advancing agricultural development and livestock production in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Since its inception, the exhibition has been held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by the government under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The exhibition is recognized as a pivotal platform for promoting local production, exchanging expertise, showcasing innovative technologies, and creating marketing and investment opportunities in agriculture and livestock.
Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, General Manager of Al Jazira Farms, expressed gratitude for His Majesty the King's patronage of the seventh edition of "Mara’ee" scheduled for 2024. He highlighted the government's unwavering support for the agricultural and livestock sectors, acknowledging its role in fostering growth and development. Shaikh Rashid also commended the efforts of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa. The initiative has been instrumental in launching projects to strengthen the agricultural sector.
Discussing Al Jazira Farms' contributions, Shaikh Rashid noted its focus on enhancing national food security since its establishment in 2012. The farm initially utilized hydroponic methods to produce lettuce and tomatoes before expanding to traditional farming to supply products across Bahrain. In 2014, the farm implemented strategies to boost food security, including the production of goat and sheep meat. He praised "Mara’ee" for its role in advancing food security, diversifying resources, and promoting investment, which supports Bahrain’s economy.
Farmer Aqeel Mahdi Al-Ajmi emphasized the importance of participating in "Mara’ee," describing it as a platform to showcase a wide range of agricultural products and tackle industry challenges. He credited the exhibition with strengthening local production and reducing dependence on imports, citing its focus on modern agricultural practices and sustainability.
Similarly, farmer Jafar Mohammed Hassan highlighted the exhibition’s value at local and regional levels. He praised it as an opportunity for farmers to access cutting-edge agricultural techniques, exchange experiences, and explore investment opportunities. Jafar stressed the importance of empowering Bahraini farmers to advance food security and maintain excellence through continuous adoption of innovative farming methods.
The success of "Mara’ee" underscores Bahrain's commitment to supporting its agricultural sector, empowering local farmers, and ensuring sustainable food security for the future.
