Families in Duraz can look forward to a transformed Abu Subh beach, as the Northern Municipal Council has given the green light to plans that will breathe new life into the area.
The proposal, led by Councillor Basim Abu Idris, aims to turn the site into a welcoming space for residents, visitors, and tourists.
“This project will bring much-needed improvements to the coastline, making it a destination that locals can be proud of while encouraging more visitors to enjoy its charms,” he said.
Plans include restoring the 570-square-metre road running alongside the coast, adding new lighting and concrete benches to make the area more inviting.
A new blue asphalt pathway will also be introduced, encouraging locals to stay active and fitting with the Northern Governorate’s efforts to promote health and well-being.
Family-friendly beach
The shoreline itself, according to the proposal, sees big changes, with rocks removed and clean sand added to create a family-friendly beach.
“We want this space to serve as a hub for recreation and relaxation, giving people a reason to visit and spend time outdoors,” Abu Idris explained.
As part of the redevelopment, informal structures are planned be replaced with new shop spaces designed to support local traders, including Bahraini entrepreneurs and street vendors.
Platform
This move ties in with the popular Farmers’ Market and is set to give small businesses a new platform to grow.
The project also includes a focus on empowering women, in line with the goals of the Supreme Council for Women.
Small business opportunities will be created to help women play a larger role in the local economy
