A small Cessna 206 Stationair plane carrying six people crashed southeast of Costa Rica’s capital, San José, on Monday afternoon. The crash occurred near Pico Blanco mountain just after midday, prompting a swift response from local authorities.

According to Costa Rica's civil aviation authorities, the plane had taken off from Tortuguero, located on the northern Caribbean coast, and was en route to San José when it crashed. Search and rescue teams were able to locate the wreckage on the mountainside by 3 p.m., though details regarding the passengers' condition or their identities remain unavailable.

The Costa Rican Red Cross confirmed that efforts to reach the crash site were underway, but the difficult terrain was hampering immediate access to the wreckage.

The condition of the six people aboard the plane is still unconfirmed, as authorities continue their investigation. Further updates are expected as search and rescue operations progress.

Costa Rican authorities have yet to release further details about the cause of the crash, as investigations are ongoing.
