Large Crowds Gather to Bid Farewell to Bahraini Business Icon Farouk Yusuf Almoayyed

Hundreds gathered at Manama Cemetery to pay their final respects to Farouk Yusuf Almoayyed, a prominent Bahraini businessman whose contributions left an indelible mark on the Kingdom's economic landscape. Almoayyed, 80, passed away due to complications following surgery abroad.
Born in 1944 in the Fareej Al Fadhel neighborhood of Manama, Farouk Almoayyed grew up in a well-established trading family. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University in England in 1966 before returning to Bahrain to join the family business.
Under his leadership, the family’s business interests, originally founded by his father, Sheikh Yusuf Almoayyed, flourished. The elder Almoayyed had shifted focus from the declining pearl trade to other industries, including electrical goods, setting the stage for Farouk to further diversify and expand the group's operations. His efforts solidified the company’s presence in both local and regional markets, contributing significantly to Bahrain's economic development.
Farouk Almoayyed held numerous senior positions throughout his career, serving as chairman of Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons, Y.K. Almoayyed Properties, National Bank of Bahrain, Bahrain Duty-Free, Gulf Hotels Group, Bahrain National Holding, Ahlia University, National Finance House, and Al Wasat Publishing and Distribution.
His passing marks the end of an era for Bahrain’s business community. Colleagues and admirers described him as a visionary leader whose work transformed industries and inspired many. Almoayyed's legacy will continue to shape the Kingdom’s economic future, serving as a testament to his dedication and leadership.
Farouk Almoayyed is survived by his family, who will undoubtedly continue his legacy of excellence and innovation in Bahrain’s business sector.
