In a night filled with adrenaline, Bahrain’s Royal Guard boxing team put on a dominant performance at Royal Rumble III last Friday, continuing their winning streak in the Kingdom’s largest charity boxing event. The event, held at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain, was not just about boxing—it was a celebration of community spirit and the power of giving back, raising a remarkable BD60,000 for the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF).
Under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the event brought together a host of boxing icons, including Amir ‘King’ Khan and Michael ‘Rocky’ Fielding, who were in attendance to support the fighters. Alongside these legends were British Ambassador Alastair Long and other dignitaries, all witnessing an unforgettable night of sport and charity.
The Royal Guard’s boxers claimed six wins out of eight bouts, putting on a show for the large crowd. Among them was Ali Alaradi, a fighter whose victory in the ring was matched by the powerful personal story he shared after the fight. Speaking exclusively to TDT, Alaradi opened up about his preparation, mindset, and what this win meant to him—both as a boxer and as a person.
Fighting for a Purpose
Alaradi, who balances his boxing career with his role as a sustainability officer, emphasized the importance of community and purpose behind his participation. “For me, community investment is the best strategy to improve social welfare. It’s one of Bahrain’s sustainability pillars,” he said. “Giving back always has a long-term positive effect—it comes back to you in ways you can't always predict, both tangibly and intangibly. I’m proud to be a part of an event that supports such a noble cause.”
Intense Preparation and Relentless Focus
When it came to his fight, Alaradi revealed that the road to victory was paved with hard work and sacrifice. “It wasn’t easy,” he admitted. “It was an intensive series of training camps, first in the UK and then in Riyadh. Both were necessary steps to get to where I am now. Teamwork and discipline were the pillars that made the training, traveling, and fighting all the more fruitful.”
As he prepared for his bout, Alaradi approached it with a focused mindset. “I made sure to cut off all distractions. I took my time to warm up, connected to my purpose, and reminded myself why I was fighting,” he explained. “Once I stepped into the ring, I had zero fear. I felt confident, and that made all the difference.”
"Push On, No Matter What"
Alaradi’s fight was a tactical display of patience and aggression. “In the first round, I was feeling out my opponent. I studied his style and understood how he was moving,” he said. “I decided to charge forward and keep the pressure on him. My approach was simple: move forward, no matter what. Alhamdulilah, I came out victorious after having one 8-second count against my opponent, and by winning most of the rounds.”
Faith and Gratitude
Reflecting on the significance of the night, Alaradi noted that his success was rooted in his faith. “One thing I took away from the night is that you must take a leap of faith in your actions in life, and put Allah first in everything you do,” he said. “When you do that, He will be on your side in your biggest battles. I’m grateful for that.”
It wasn’t just about the fight, though. Alaradi shared a special moment with Amir Khan, who handed him the Winner’s Trophy after his fight. “Having Amir Khan hand me the trophy was such a sensational moment. And having Rocky Fielding there, too, was an honor,” Alaradi said. “I don’t know how this will influence my career yet, but I’m optimistic for the best.”
A Tradition of Excellence Continues
The Royal Guard’s victory at Royal Rumble III adds to a growing tradition of success for the team. In the inaugural edition of the event in 2022, the Royal Guard defeated the British Army’s Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in eight out of nine bouts. Last year, they defeated the Parachute Regiment in six out of nine contests.
This year’s victory further solidified the Royal Guard’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with, but for Alaradi, his success was about more than just the win. It was about purpose, faith, and the chance to make a difference.
As he put it, “I’m happy to have contributed to this cause through my involvement in the sport. Boxing isn’t just about fighting—it’s about fighting for something bigger than yourself.”
