MP Jalal Kazim has submitted a proposal calling for the establishment of an administrative committee within the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) to verify the academic qualifications of foreign workers before issuing work permits. The committee would oversee both the public and private sectors.
MP Kazim stated to the Daily Tribune that this proactive measure aims to ensure the quality and efficiency of services across various sectors.
"The committee would verify the authenticity of academic credentials presented by foreign workers, preventing individuals with forged qualifications from entering the workforce," he said. This, he argued, would mitigate risks to public safety and maintain professional standards.
The MP stressed that this step protects both citizens and employers by safeguarding the Bahraini labour market from the dangers of credential fraud and enhancing the quality of services for all residents.
He highlighted the increasing number of reported cases of foreign workers using forged qualifications, as frequently documented in the press. He urged the LMRA, as the body responsible for issuing work permits, to strengthen its oversight of academic qualifications.
The proposal, he added, reflects the legislative authority's commitment to ensuring safe and high-quality services, particularly in sensitive sectors directly impacting citizens' lives. He warned that unqualified individuals or those with forged credentials could cause significant harm, in addition to unfairly denying qualified Bahraini citizens employment opportunities.
"The proposed committee would thoroughly examine all documents submitted by foreign workers to verify their authenticity, producing detailed reports to minimize professional risks associated with document forgery. This, in turn, would contribute to providing safe and high-quality professional services to citizens," he explained.
The proposal's main objectives include ensuring safe services for all residents, providing jobs only to academically qualified individuals to raise professional standards, reducing professional risks associated with academic fraud, and guaranteeing a safe and efficient work environment.
