An Asian man has been sentenced to three years imprisonment followed by deportation for drunk driving, resulting in the death of one family member and injuries to three others.
The Court of Cassation upheld the original sentence handed down by the Lower Criminal Court.
The accident occurred on December 22, 2023, when the defendant, driving under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle on a curve, colliding with a wall and a light pole.
The impact caused fatal injuries to one passenger and serious injuries to three others, all of whom were family members.
The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with causing death by negligence due to drunk driving and failing to exercise due care and caution.
The prosecution also cited the defendant’s reckless driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in injuries and property damage.
The Lower Criminal Court initially sentenced the defendant to three years imprisonment and ordered his permanent deportation from Bahrain upon completion of his sentence.
The defendant appealed the ruling to the High Court of Appeals, which upheld the sentence. A subsequent appeal was filed with the Court of Cassation.
