Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are making inroads into Bahrain’s government tenders, as the Tender Board rolls out measures to give them a better shot at success.

These include a 10% advantage in financial evaluations and tenders restricted solely to smaller businesses, aiming to create fairer competition.

The Tender Board, in response to a question by Shura Council member Lina Habib Qasim, detailed its actions to bring SMEs into the fold.

A key step was issuing Circular No. 3 of 2019, which requires public bodies to post internal tenders on the board’s e-Tendering system.

This ensures all government opportunities are visible on the board’s website, making it easier for SMEs to find work that matches their expertise.

Suppliers and contractors can now view every tender and auction announcement in one place. For SMEs, this means a clearer view of the playing field and the ability to decide on bids that suit their capabilities.
