His Excellency Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, expressed his sincere appreciation for the unveiling of the "Bahrain Mangroves" initiative by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the critical significance of planting mangroves within the Kingdom of Bahrain, while fostering community partnerships to fulfil various environmental goals. This aligns with the implementation of the National Action Plan, “Blueprint Bahrain,” which is designed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to confronting the challenges posed by climate change and protecting the environment.
He highlighted the pivotal role of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa in championing efforts to cultivate mangroves in Bahrain, in accordance with established plans that seek to quadruple the number of mangroves in the Kingdom by 2035.
The Minister elaborated that mangroves possess an extraordinary capacity to absorb carbon dioxide and play an indispensable role within the ecosystem. They are recognised as one of the most beneficial species in nature. In light of their importance, July 26 has been designated as the International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems, a day celebrated to enhance awareness of the significance of these ecosystems and to underscore their unique and vital role. Continuous efforts are made to develop effective management solutions for these ecosystems, thereby ensuring their sustainability and preservation, he added.
In conclusion, His Excellency emphasised that the launch of the "Bahrain Mangroves" initiative serves as a significant motivation for ministry personnel to persist in their efforts and intensify their endeavours to achieve the set objectives.
This initiative aims to elevate both the environmental and agricultural sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain, while amplifying supportive initiatives aligned with national plans to increase tree populations and establish conducive policies for afforestation, thereby encouraging public participation in these vital initiatives.
