Gulf national avoids jail time after assaulting police officer

A Gulf national has avoided jail time after assaulting and verbally abusing a police officer while being detained for outstanding warrants.

The court ruled the individual not criminally responsible for his actions.

The defendant appeared in court earlier with his lawyer, Ibrahim Khalil, who argued for his client’s acquittal on the grounds of irresponsibility and requested a psychiatric evaluation.

The Public Prosecution had charged the defendant with assaulting a member of the General Security Forces on September 3rd, 2024, at a local police station.

Injuries

The assault, which occurred during the performance of the officer’s duties, resulted in injuries that incapacitated the officer for over 20 days.

The defendant was also charged with publicly insulting the officer with words recorded in the police report also during the performance of the officer’s duties.

According to the court’s records, based on evidence presented, the incident unfolded as follows: The defendant was returning to his Gulf country via the King Fahd Causeway. Upon arrival at the border crossing, it was discovered he was wanted.
