The United Kingdom is set to join the US-led Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA) with the Kingdom of Bahrain, following an invitation extended by Bahrain and the United States during the 20th IISS Manama Dialogue currently underway in Manama. The landmark trilateral initiative aims to enhance regional and global security through multilateral cooperation, mutual respect, and shared prosperity.
In his opening remarks, Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, highlighted the pact as a key example of Bahrain’s diplomatic approach to fostering stability. “C-SIPA is designed not as a bilateral arrangement but as a multilateral framework adaptable to evolving challenges,” he said, underscoring Bahrain’s vision for collective solutions to global tensions.
Regional Priorities
The dialogue also tackled pressing issues, with Bahrain advocating for immediate action in Gaza, including a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and humanitarian aid delivery. In Lebanon, the Kingdom called for adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, urging respect for international law. For Syria, as chair of the Arab League, Bahrain pushed for a political solution preserving sovereignty and promoting regional reintegration.
“These issues, alongside other challenges, demand sustained engagement,” Dr. Alzayani stated, reaffirming Bahrain’s role as a mediator in fostering peace and stability.
Arab Summit Impact
Reflecting on the Kingdom’s leadership during the 33rd Arab Summit, Dr. Alzayani highlighted the adoption of the “Manama Declaration,” a roadmap for actionable outcomes. The declaration includes initiatives to improve healthcare, education, and innovation for communities affected by conflict and reaffirms a commitment to the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“The declaration represents Bahrain’s dedication to meaningful progress, not just symbolic gestures,” he noted, expressing hope that the dialogue would amplify support for these goals.
Marking Milestones
The 20th Manama Dialogue coincides with the 25th anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s accession, underscoring Bahrain’s enduring commitment to dialogue and diplomacy. Dr. Alzayani credited His Majesty’s leadership and the proactive efforts of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for elevating Bahrain’s role on the international stage.
Call for Collaboration
As the dialogue continues, Dr. Alzayani encouraged active participation, stressing that collective action and innovative thinking are essential to address today’s complex challenges. “Together, through dialogue and partnership, we can navigate these challenges and build a more secure, prosperous future for all,” he concluded, setting an optimistic tone for the discussions ahead.
The IISS Manama Dialogue remains a vital platform for addressing regional and global issues, bringing together leaders and experts to forge collaborative solutions for lasting peace and stability.
