A 40-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced by the High Criminal Court for theft and assault at an electrical goods store. The defendant was found guilty of stealing a power drill and assaulting a store employee who attempted to intervene. According to the employee, the incident began when the defendant selected a power drill and attempted to leave without paying.
When the employee confronted him, the defendant reacted aggressively, shouting and striking him on the head and neck. He also grabbed the employee’s face, causing several injuries before fleeing the store with the stolen item. The employee described the attack, stating, “I was just doing my job when I saw him trying to leave without paying.
I didn’t expect him to hit me.” Security camera footage confirmed the employee’s account, showing the defendant leaving with the drill while the employee pursued him. A medical report indicated that the employee suffered pain, swelling to his head, a cut lip, and scratches on his neck. The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with theft by coercion and assault. The court found him guilty on both counts and sentenced him to one year in prison.
