The man, who had suspected for years that one of his children was not his, had his worst fears confirmed when the appeals court authorised a DNA test. For 10 years, he believed the child to be his, but after the couple’s divorce in 2023, he questioned the paternity of one of their two children. The couple had married in 2012 and had two children during their marriage.
After the divorce, the man took the matter to court, claiming that one of the children was not biologically his. The court, however, rejected his argument and denied his request to have his name removed from the child’s passport and other legal documents. Despite the setback, the man decided to appeal the case to the High Shariat Appeals Court, where judges authorised a DNA test.
The test results revealed a mismatch, confirming that the man was not the biological father, while affirming the mother’s biological relationship to the child, according to lawyer Musa Adnan. The court ruled to deny paternity to the claimant, nullifying all legal consequences of the previous paternity attribution. Additionally, the court ordered the removal of the man’s name from all official documents related to the child.
