The Ministry of Works in Bahrain has processed 1,760 compensation claims for damages caused by recent heavy rains, with 561 claims approved and compensation disbursed, according to Minister Ibrahim Hassan Al Hawaj. The remaining claims are still under review, with some delayed due to incomplete documentation.

In response to a parliamentary inquiry from MP Mohammed Maarefi, the Minister outlined the types of damages reported, including damage to furniture, electrical appliances, and building structures. Eligibility for compensation is based on whether the damage was caused by rainwater accumulation or sewage backups due to Ministry projects.

Claims involving damage from direct rainfall, such as leaks through roofs or windows, are not eligible. A damage assessment committee evaluates claims based on site visits and the extent of the damage, with compensation varying depending on location and property contents. The Ministry is working with the Capital Municipality and municipal councils to expedite the process and assist citizens in submitting complete information.
