The Kingdom of Bahrain is steadfast in its commitment to enhancing its position as a leading regional hub in aviation, air cargo, and logistics. This was emphasised by His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications.

These efforts align with Bahrain’s comprehensive and sustainable development goals under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Marking International Civil Aviation Day and the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Chicago Convention, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed expressed pride in Bahrain’s long-standing history and achievements in the civil aviation sector. He highlighted the Kingdom’s distinction as the operator of the Gulf region’s first commercial international airport and its pioneering contributions to aviation.

Advancements

The Minister praised the significant advancements at Bahrain International Airport, particularly following the opening of the new passenger terminal, which can accommodate 14 million passengers and 130,000 aircraft movements annually.

He also highlighted the ongoing development of the Air Cargo Village project, which enhances Bahrain’s strategic role as a regional leader in aviation and logistics. Bahrain’s appeal as a key destination for civil aviation and logistics is reinforced by its highly skilled national workforce, cutting-edge air navigation and flight control systems, and modern, efficient facilities.

International trust

The Minister noted that the Kingdom has earned international trust, with global airlines and air freight companies selecting Bahrain International Airport as a pivotal hub for their operations.

He emphasised Bahrain’s adherence to the highest safety and quality standards, as recognised by its top-tier classification in a comprehensive audit by the US Federal Aviation Administration. This accreditation facilitates direct flights to the US and bolsters the airport’s partnerships with major carriers, including British Airways.
