Bahrain reaffirms support for Syria

The Kingdom of Bahrain reaffirmed its close monitoring of the rapidly evolving situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, emphasising its commitment to the security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria.

The Kingdom also highlighted the importance of protecting civilians in accordance with international humanitarian l aw.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all parties and components of the Syrian population to prioritise the nation’s supreme interests and the well-being of its citizens, while ensuring the preservation of public institutions and the protection of vital and economic infrastructure.

The Kingdom reiterated its support for regional and international efforts to assist the Syrian people in achieving their aspirations for a brighter future characterised by security, stability, unity, and justice.

Bahrain further stressed the importance of facilitating the return of refugees and displaced persons, within a comprehensive reconstruction plan aimed at rebuilding democratic institutions, achieving peace, and restoring Syria’s vital role at the Arab and international levels.

Meanwhile, hours after the collapse of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime, the Syrian Embassy in Bahrain took down its national flag from its headquarters in Manama, removing symbols of the toppled government.

Embassy staff were also seen taking down portraits of Al-Assad from inside the building, marking a clear break from the now-ousted leadership.

Despite the dramatic gestures, the embassy plans to remain operational.
