Plans for the second phase of Barbar Park, promising family-friendly facilities, sports areas, and expanded parking, are picking up pace as officials work to finalise technical preparations, municipal leaders have announced.

The Northern Municipal Council’s chairman, Dr Sayyed Shubber Al Wadaei, said that efforts to move the project forward were boosted by a recent meeting with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.

The ministry’s team gave a detailed presentation of the second-phase plans, covering relaxation zones, sports courts, family seating areas, and restaurants to serve visitors.

Congestion

Parking areas are also included to ease congestion.

The development will cover 10,000 square metres of the park’s total area of 18,484.5 square metres.

Dr Al Wadaei praised the thought that went into the proposed design, noting its inviting features designed to make the park a key recreational destination.

Landscaping

The plans also feature extensive landscaping both inside and outside the park as part of Bahrain’s afforestation drive, aimed at supporting environmental sustainability.

During the meeting, the council’s technical team shared suggestions, including installing water features, adding a walking path around the site, and building side routes to manage traffic flow.

They also proposed linking the second phase to the first to ensure easier access for visitors exploring the entire park.

Determination

Dr Al Wadaei expressed the council’s determination to work alongside the ministry to wrap up the technical plans and begin construction as soon as possible.

He stressed that the project would benefit the community in Barbar and nearby villages along Al Nakheel Highway, advancing Bahrain’s long-term development goals.
