An Arab woman has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined BD 1,000 after being convicted of impersonating a lawyer and defrauding an Asian businessman. The High Appeals Court upheld the original sentence, and the woman will also face deportation after serving her time.
The woman, who lacked a law license, convinced the businessman, who owns a company managing tourist visas, that she could resolve residency issues for his employees. Referred to her by a friend, the businessman paid BD 610 in two instalments—via the Benefit app and cash—for her alleged services.
The woman sent forged payment receipts and court judgments via WhatsApp, claiming to have solved the problem. However, the businessman later discovered the documents were fake.
While admitting she was not a licensed lawyer, the woman claimed to know legal professionals. An investigation confirmed the forged documents and traced the money through the Benefit app. The court convicted her of fraud and forgery, ordering the confiscation of the documents and her deportation after serving the sentence
