Bahrain Celebrates Inauguration of Bapco Modernisation Project

Under the auspicious patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain celebrated the inauguration of the Bapco Modernisation Project (BMP). This historic initiative, the largest strategic project in the Kingdom’s history, represents a pivotal step in Bahrain's energy sector development.

The inauguration coincided with Bahrain’s 53rd National Day celebrations and the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty’s accession, marking 25 years of progress under his leadership.

Upon His Majesty's arrival, he was welcomed by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bapco Energies, alongside senior officials from the company, including Abdulla Jehad Al Zain, Mr. Mark Thomas, and Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery.

Following the formal inauguration, His Majesty toured the exhibition "A Journey Through Time," which highlighted Bahrain’s energy sector milestones. The display traced the Kingdom's oil exploration history, from the first discovery in 1932 to the development of state-of-the-art technologies showcased today.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa delivered a speech, emphasising the project’s significance as one of the most advanced refineries globally. He noted its role in commemorating over 93 years since Bapco's establishment and the first crude oil flow in the Gulf region. The project features 15 sub-stations, 21 new processing units, and integrates advanced technologies to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

During his address, His Majesty King Hamad highlighted the Bapco Modernisation Project’s alignment with Bahrain's 2030 Vision and its commitment to sustainable growth. He underscored the importance of the project in driving Bahrain’s energy transition strategy, maximising resource value, and fostering economic development.

"This landmark project reflects our enduring commitment to sustainable growth, utilising the Kingdom of Bahrain’s natural energy resources to power economic progress and development," His Majesty said.

His Majesty praised the contributions of His Highness Shaikh Nasser to the energy sector and acknowledged the efforts of Bahraini citizens, whose dedication and creativity underpin the Kingdom’s achievements.

The BMP sets a benchmark in Bahrain’s energy transformation, enhancing refining capacity, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability. It strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a global energy innovator and ensures long-term economic value.
