Old, worn-out dumpsters in the Northern Governorate are set to be replaced with sturdier, more practical models, with new areas taking priority, municipal officials confirmed during a key meeting on Wednesday.

The Northern Municipal Council, chaired by Dr Shubber Al Wadaei, agreed to keep dumpsters in their current locations while ensuring that underserved neighbourhoods get bins first.

The meeting welcomed Engineer Hisham Al Abbasi, Head of Inspection and Monitoring at the Northern Municipality, and Yaseen Balhawan, Operations Manager at cleaning firm Urbaser, who were tasked with stepping up waste management efforts.

Pledges

As for residential compounds, residents will be required to sign pledges promising to follow strict rubbish disposal times.

Leaflets will be handed out, setting the waste collection window between 8pm and 10pm.

Officials are also weighing the idea of printing Urbaser’s contact details on the leaflets, allowing the public to request the removal of bulky household items and garden waste.

Inspections

The council vowed to ramp up inspections and crack down on illegal dumping, particularly in open plots, in line with Bahrain’s public cleanliness regulations.

Clean streets and well-maintained public spaces remain a top priority as the council works to raise hygiene standards across the governorate.
