An Arab man who lived in Bahrain for 40 years was finally buried nine months after his death due to a lack of identification documents, according to lawyer Amani Hamid.  The 76-year-old, a national of an Arab country, passed away on January 20, 2024, at Salmaniya Medical Complex.

Ms. Hamid explained that her client had lived in Bahrain without official identification documents for an extended period.  He worked in construction and had no family in the country.  He had lost all his identification papers sometime during his 40 years of residence.

In his final months, he contacted a close Bahraini friend, informing him of a tumor in his left hip, as noted in a police report. He was subsequently admitted to Salmaniya Medical Complex under another person's identity card.

After his death, locating his family proved challenging. However,  a relative working in another Gulf state was eventually contacted. This relative traveled to Bahrain and initiated legal proceedings to obtain a death certificate and claim the body.

The court case involved the Information and eGovernment Authority, resulting in a court order mandating the issuance of a death certificate and the official registration of the death.

The process concluded with the man's burial nine months after his passing, highlighting the difficulties faced by individuals living without proper documentation and the importance of family support in such situations.
