The Shura Council is set to discuss two key proposals during its eleventh meeting in the third session of the sixth legislative term, scheduled for today.
First on the agenda is the Services Committee’s report on a draft law that would repeal Article 28 of the Decree-Law regulating pharmacies and pharmaceutical centres, linked to Royal Decree No. 98 of 2024.
The committee has recommended the draft law’s approval.
The proposed change seeks to open the door for individuals and companies to establish as many pharmacy branches as they wish.
The move is intended to improve access to medicine across Bahrain, making it easier for the public to secure the treatments they need.
This step is part of Bahrain’s broader efforts to strengthen public health and support the healthcare sector.
The Constitution places a high priority on healthcare as a core element of society, making the state responsible for its provision.
This approach bolsters Bahrain’s position as a hub for quality healthcare services.
The draft law also ties in with the National Health Plan, approved by the Cabinet, which serves as a guide for enhancing the healthcare system.
The Council will also examine the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee’s report on a proposed amendment to Article 1 of Law No. 28 of 2006, concerning the Future Generations Reserve.
