A 63-year-old Asian man appeared before the High Criminal Court yesterday, confessing to the killing of his 34-year-old son but claiming it was unintentional.
The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with premeditated murder, alleging that on October 14, 2024, he intentionally killed his son by binding his hands and feet with cloth, then slitting his throat with a knife.
The prosecution contends the actions were deliberate and resulted in the death of the victim.
Three Asian witnesses, who resided with the defendant and his son, corroborated key aspects of the incident.
The first witness stated that the defendant had previously admitted his son struggled with drug addiction in their home country.
After treatment, the son was brought to Bahrain to work with his father.
Problems
The witness testified that the son frequently caused problems, verbally abusing and physically assaulting his father.
On the day of the incident, the witness heard an argument and left the house.
Upon returning, he found the father covered in blood, and he confessed to killing his son.
The second and third witnesses corroborated this account.
Erratic behaviour
A fourth witness, an employee at a nearby kiosk, testified that two weeks prior to the incident, the son exhibited erratic behaviour, shouting and aggressively pulling at his father’s clothes.
The witness further stated that the defendant contacted him on the day of the incident, requesting the police number and later the defendant’s address, which he provided to the police.
The witness recounted the defendant’s explanation that he had beaten his son, only discovering the extent of the tragedy upon police arrival.
The forensic doctor testified that the victim suffered a deep, fatal wound to the neck extending to the spinal column, inflicted by a sharp object.
Injuries
Additional injuries, consistent with binding the victim’s hands and wrists with a rigid material, were also noted.
These injuries were consistent with the knife recovered at the scene.
A police officer from the Capital Governorate Directorate confirmed receiving a report from the defendant, who was found wearing blood-stained clothing.
The officer witnessed the victim’s body and the murder weapon at the scene.
