Twenty-eight Indian fishermen have returned home after serving their sentences in Bahrain for breaching international fishing laws by entering the kingdom’s territorial waters.

Their case dates back to 11 September, when the Coast Guard apprehended the group, who had sailed from Iran into Bahraini waters for fishing.

The fishermen had started working in Iran on 31 August before venturing into the Arabian Gulf, where they eventually strayed into Bahrain’s maritime boundaries.

Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Vinod K. Jacob, expressed his thanks to Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other authorities for their help in ensuring consular access and support during the process.

He noted that the incident shows India’s efforts to safeguard its citizens abroad while maintaining solid ties with Bah- The Indian fishermen on way home rain.
