Caught treating patients and handing out controlled drugs without proper authorisation, an Asian man has been sentenced to a year in prison and ordered to be deported from Bahrain. The court also seized a stash of medicines, injections, and medical gear found in his possession.
The man was arrested after police received a tip-off about his activities. Investigators uncovered that he had been seeing patients, diagnosing ailments, and issuing treatments, including controlled substances that require a prescription. Under surveillance, his actions were confirmed, leading to his capture during a joint operation with the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).
The Public Prosecution immediately launched an inquiry, during which the man admitted to practising medicine without a licence. The confiscated drugs were sent for analysis, which revealed they included tightly regulated substances that can only be dispensed with proper medical approval. He was held in custody while the case was prepared for court.
The defendant will be deported after serving his prison sentence, and the confiscated items will remain with the authorities.
