The United Nations and the Kingdom of Bahrain officially launched the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for the years 2025-2029 in Manama today.

The new Framework, which is rooted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, is closely aligned with Bahrain’s national priorities and offers a unified approach to tackling the nation’s most pressing development challenges. At its core, the Framework aims to build resilience, promote inclusivity, and support economic diversification, all while ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s journey toward sustainability.

Key Strategic Priorities of the UNSDCF:

People – Enhanced Social Equity and Well-Being
Prosperity – Sustainable Economic Transformation
Peace – Governance for Justice and Human Rights
Planet – Resilient Environmental Stewardship

These four strategic priorities are complemented by core outcomes aimed at ensuring universal access to quality services, fostering a diversified and inclusive economy, strengthening governance structures for justice and human rights, and promoting environmental stewardship. Together, these initiatives will drive sustainable and inclusive development in alignment with Bahrain’s national vision and global goals.

A key aspect of the Framework is its emphasis on Bahrain-led sustainable development, with the United Nations offering support to ensure a better and more sustainable future for all. Partnerships, a central element of the 2030 Agenda, will be integrated across all areas of the Framework to further promote collaboration and innovation.

Khaled El Mekwad, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, highlighted the importance of this milestone, stating, “The signing of the new UNSDCF is a significant achievement in our long-standing strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Bahrain. This framework is the result of an inclusive consultative process involving a wide range of stakeholders, including government representatives, the private sector, civil society, as well as women and youth.”

El Mekwad further emphasized, “The Framework will guide the work of the United Nations Country Team in Bahrain, supporting the Kingdom's ambitious journey to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the national development aspirations of the people of Bahrain.”

This launch marks a new chapter in Bahrain's commitment to sustainable development and reflects the country's ongoing efforts to create a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous future.
