The Shura Council's Services Committee, chaired by Dr Jameela Al Salman, continued its discussion on Monday of a proposed law concerning medical liability.
The bill, submitted by members Dr Al Salman, Dr Jehad Al Fadhel, Dalal Al Zayed, Dr Ibtisam Al Dalal, and Dr Hani Al Sa'ati, aims to establish a comprehensive framework for medical malpractice in Bahrain.
The proposed law seeks to create a Supreme Committee for Medical Liability, unifying existing provisions on medical responsibility into a single act. A key objective is to protect both medical professionals and patients, ensuring their safety and supporting the growth of medical tourism in the Kingdom.
The draft legislation comprises eight chapters and 31 articles, covering the duties and responsibilities of healthcare providers, patient rights, procedures for investigating medical professionals, and insurance against civil liability for medical errors.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the opinions of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee and the Association of Private Healthcare Institutions. A comparative table outlining similar legislation in other countries was also examined.
