A new youth centre has been proposed for southern Muharraq, with the suggested location being a vacant plot near Halat Bu Maher Health Centre. An alternative site within the area may be considered if necessary.
The proposal, put forward by Mohammed Al Olaiwi and Hisham Al Awadhi, aims to create a space for young people to engage in social, cultural, and recreational activities.
"This centre would serve residents in the third and fourth constituencies of southern Muharraq," states the explanatory memorandum.
"By bringing young people together to share ideas and experiences, the centre would foster a sense of community and prepare the next generation to contribute meaningfully to the country," it continues.
The proposal highlights the area's growing population and geographical expansion as key reasons for the initiative. It draws parallels with the Muharraq Model Youth Centre in the northern part of the city, which has been praised for fulfilling similar needs.
The initiative has been filed under Article 68 of the Constitution, which allows members of Parliament to submit requests to the government. A formal response is expected within six months.
