His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, inaugurated the Electricity and Water Control Center today. The event coincided with Bahrain’s National Days and the Silver Jubilee marking the 25th anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Accession to the Throne.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister praised the efforts driving Bahrain's progress across various sectors, enhancing the Kingdom’s competitiveness and strengthening its economy. His Royal Highness emphasized that Team Bahrain continues to achieve national aspirations with ambition, excellence, and creativity, elevating the Kingdom’s standing and contributing to its comprehensive development under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad noted that the launch of the Electricity and Water Control Center represents a significant step toward improving infrastructure efficiency and supporting future developments. He highlighted the importance of investing in electricity and water infrastructure to promote sustainable economic growth, innovation, and diversification.
During the event, HRH toured the new Center and received a briefing on its advanced capabilities from HE Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA). The Center’s features include enhanced capacity, improved quality, and greater efficiency in Bahrain's electricity and water distribution networks. It is also designed to reduce maintenance costs and enhance flexibility in monitoring and management.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister underlined the role of technology-driven projects in achieving operational excellence and stressed that infrastructure initiatives are critical for broader development efforts, attracting investment, fostering economic diversification, and strengthening public-private partnerships.
HE Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed expressed gratitude to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for his support of EWA projects, which align with Bahrain’s comprehensive development goals under His Majesty the King’s leadership. HE Mohammed noted the Center’s integration of four advanced monitoring and control stations and the use of “Private LTE” technology, making Bahrain the first country in the Middle East to adopt this innovation. These advancements enhance the Kingdom’s main electricity and water networks and address growing service demands.
The Center also signifies Bahrain’s transition toward a smart network by using advanced control systems and innovative technologies to oversee electricity and water networks. This includes managing 258 main electricity transmission stations, a 1,906-kilometer ground cable network, 10,400 electricity substations, 46 water transmission and distribution stations, and a 618-kilometer pipeline network. Additionally, solar panels around the Center and its parking areas generate clean energy, covering approximately 50% of its electricity needs.
The inauguration was attended by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Education Charitable Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen); HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister; HE General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior; HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy; and other senior officials.
