A group of lawmakers in Bahrain has submitted a proposal aimed at streamlining the procedures for obtaining building licenses. The proposal seeks to exempt construction works, specifically expansions or additions not exceeding 100 square meters, from the requirement for engineering supervision.
The initiative, led by MP Khalid Buanaq along with MPs Ahmad Al Saloum, Zainab Abdulameer, Mohammed Mousa Al Balooshi, and Bader Al Tamimi, is designed to alleviate the complexities currently faced by individuals wishing to undertake construction projects. MP Buanq emphasised that the proposal responds to the increasing difficulties associated with the conditions for obtaining building permits.
The lawmakers argue that the proposal will ease the burden on citizens, who are often confronted with growing complexities in the licensing process. It aims to reduce the costs incurred by homeowners for small-scale expansions or additions, which can be a financial strain even when the projects are modest in size.
The explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal highlights its foundation in addressing the realities and challenges faced by citizens. It reflects a spirit of cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, aiming to benefit the nation and its people by facilitating the licensing process and alleviating financial burdens.
Additionally, the memorandum points out the rising costs of construction, noting that the current regulations impose additional financial strains on citizens for engineering services that may not be necessary for simple projects. The proposed changes are intended to make building more accessible and affordable for all.
