The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) has issued a study analyzing the best international practices for effectively managing resources and their implications for existing practices in the Arabian Gulf States. The study was prepared by Engineer Sabeeka Khalid Mohammed Ismail, an Analyst at Derasat’s Energy and Environment Program in the Studies and Research Directorate.
This study supports the commitment in achieving sustainable development goals within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as there is a trend toward adopting effective waste management practices to reduce environmental impact and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The report further highlights the lessons learned from successful waste management policies in several countries, selected based on the Environmental Performance Index for 2022, with the aim of benefiting from their strategies and adapting them to suit the Arabian Gulf context.
Derasat aims to contribute through its studies and analytical research to support stakeholders and enhance dialogue on a range of important topics. A number of recommendations have been presented to bolster efforts in resource management, thereby enhancing the transition toward a sustainable circular and environmental economy in the region.
