Bahrain's Construction Sector Faces Crisis Amidst Concrete Shortage

Bahrain's construction sector is grappling with a severe shortage of concrete, leading to unprecedented price hikes and widespread concern among contractors and real estate developers.
The price of concrete has soared to over 110 Bahraini dinars per ton, resulting in lengthy waiting lists for the essential building material. Riyadh Al Barmi, a construction and contracting expert, attributed the shortage to difficulties faced by Bahrain's main supplier in providing the usual quantities.
He highlighted to our sister newspaper Alayam the volatile nature of current prices, stating that they fluctuate daily depending on availability. "Prices today range from 110 dinars and above, depending on the supply available in the market," he explained.
The crisis is causing significant challenges for the construction sector. Al Barmi warned of potential project delays and increased costs for both companies and consumers.
He urged relevant authorities to take swift action, suggesting either coordinating supplies with exporting countries or supporting the local market by opening new import channels. He stressed that a failure to address the issue could have long-term negative repercussions on Bahrain's real estate sector and urban development.
