A significant infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and boosting economic growth in Bahrain has officially commenced, Dr Salman Mohsen Abdullah, representative of the fourth constituency, confirmed to the Daily Tribune. The Isa Town Salmabad Northern Interchange development, located north of the Isa Town Gate intersection, is now underway.

Dr Abdullah emphasised the project's strategic importance within a broader initiative to modernise road networks connecting key cities including Riffa, A'ali, Sanad, Salmabad, and Isa Town. "The upgrade is expected to dramatically improve traffic flow along Shaikh Salman Highway, a major artery linking Manama and Riffa. Currently handling 12,000 vehicles daily, the improved intersection will have a capacity of 22,500 vehicles per day after completion," he revealed, adding: "The project encompasses a comprehensive overhaul of the intersection of Shaikh Salman Highway with Amman and Salmabad Avenues. This will include a three-lane flyover in each direction to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow along Shaikh Salman Highway.

"Ground-level traffic management will be improved with the installation of new traffic signals to facilitate smoother movement on Salmabad and Amman avenues. Furthermore, the project includes the construction of a new storm water drainage system, road paving, sidewalk improvements, landscaping, and the implementation of enhanced road safety measures."

The BD 22.3 million project was awarded by the Tender Board to a consortium of Ghanim International and Almoayyed Contracting. Dr Abdullah expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Works, Eng. Ebrahim Al Hawaj, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, for their support and efforts in making this project a reality.
