Three young Bahrainis, aged 20, 21, and 16, are facing charges for allegedly setting fire to several electricity light poles owned by the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in October 2024.
The act, which could have endangered the public, occurred near the Country Mall on Budaiya Highway. A police officer from Budaiya Police Station testified that an investigation was launched following a report of arson.
"Upon receiving the report, we immediately initiated a thorough investigation. The evidence pointed towards the involvement of these three teenagers," the officer stated to prosecutors.
The officer further explained, “A forensic examination of the first defendant's phone revealed his membership in a group called 'Changing the Youth of Karrana.
'This group appears to have been involved in promoting reckless behaviour among its members.” A Civil Defence report confirmed that the fire was indeed arson, stating that gasoline was used in the act.
"The use of gasoline indicates a premeditated effort to cause damage, which is alarming," the officer added. The case has been adjourned until December 31st to allow for the review of social and psychological reports concerning the 16-year-old defendant.
