The Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, His Excellency Yasser Humaidan, has announced that the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) generated a total revenue of approximately BD990 million from bills issued between November 2022 and October 2024.

Highlighting the breakdown, Humaidan revealed that BD610 million, the largest share, came from non-residential facilities. This category accounted for around 550 million bills, out of a total of nearly 900 million bills issued during the period.

Residential Revenue Analysis

Supported residential accounts contributed BD110 million, derived from about 100 million bills. Meanwhile, unsupported residential accounts generated BD280 million in revenue, based on 250 million bills.

Efficient Payment Management

The minister detailed EWA’s streamlined process for managing overdue payments, emphasizing its structured timeline:

  1. Notifications are first included in bills, accompanied by multiple reminder text messages.
  2. If no payment is received, final notices are sent via text and email.
  3. As a last resort, services are disconnected on the 53rd day.

Humaidan assured that these measures are designed to give customers ample time to settle dues while maintaining operational efficiency.

Smart Meter Technology

EWA has embraced advanced smart meter technology, with 99% of meters now remotely read to ensure accurate billing without the need for physical visits. Efforts are underway to replace the remaining 1% of older meters with the latest technology.

"The transition to smart meters has significantly improved accuracy and efficiency in billing and collection, enhancing customer satisfaction and ensuring reliable services for all," Humaidan stated.

Looking Ahead

With its commitment to innovation and customer-centric services, EWA continues to prioritize efficiency and transparency in operations, cementing its role as a vital service provider in the Kingdom.
